I just wanted to make a quick post to talk about…
The Qortal UI Wrapper
This post is a TUTORIAL on how to obtain, and use the Wrapper to BUILD THE QORTAL UI FROM SOURCE WITH A FEW CLICKS.
What is it?
The Wrapper is a Windows program built to be simpler for Windows Users during the time when we do not have a full release package for the Qortal UI.
The Wrapper does:
- UI build dependency setup for ALL necessary UI dependencies.
- UI install process – build from github source repos – each time run it will start again, to ensure the newest version is built. So only run ‘install UI’ once per version change.
- Self-Contained application not reliant on browser. – Utilize the UI direct in a standalone application.
- A totally separate encrypted notes/passwords manager aside from the one IN the Qortal UI platform. – Utilize this for another secure location to store any text you like!
- Console view of all UI commands for easy debugging, etc.
- Start and Stop for UI (once setup and running)
- Expansion possible with new features added, later.
Okay I’m sold, how do I use it!?
UI Wrapper First Use Tutorial
Download the Wrapper program zip from Crowetic Cloud – https://cloud.crowetic.com/s/z9z7RdNEKX74BMa – other download locations will come soon. (You can find source here – https://gitlab.com/Sir.Galahad/qort-ui-wrapper)
Once you have downloaded the zip, simply extract the files … ‘extract files…’ (you will end up with the files in a folder with the same name as the zip. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RUN THE EXE WITHOUT EXTRACTING THE ZIP.)
EXTRACT FILES TO A FOLDER – just right click ‘Extract All..‘
Now that you’ve got some files in a folder… you’ll notice a file named ‘QORT UI Wrapper.exe‘
You can make a shortcut on your desktop for this exe if you like.
Run the QORT UI Wrapper.exe – This will run a cmd prompt window, as well as the UI for the wrapper. –YOU MUST LEAVE BOTH WINDOWS RUNNING THE WHOLE TIME YOU USE THE WRAPPER. IT IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE PROCESSES.–
On your first run, you will need to BUILD the UI. The wrapper comes with nifty buttons to allow this to take place very easily!
To do this, simply click ‘install deps‘ (first button top left)
Wait for the CMD window to FULLY FINISH everything it is doing.
Once the dependencies have all been installed…
Click ‘Install UI‘ – This will start the process of cloning the github repos, and building the UI server for the first time.
*This process may take some time... 25+ minutes is not unlikely… depending on speed of the computer being used.
Let the process FINISH FULLY.
After this has completed, you should have a button that says ‘Run UI‘. Click that button to start the UI SERVER.
Once the UI server has started, you may need to toggle the ‘Use local UI‘ toggle once or twice, keeping it ON… before the UI will load in the blank window of the wrapper.
End result should be the Qortal UI screen running in the wrapper window.
You will notice ANOTHER CMD WINDOW that comes up when you run the UI server. LEAVE IT OPEN while you’re using the wallet.
If you need to stop the UI server for any reason, click the STOP UI button.
Feel free to minimize the cmd windows if you like, and leave only the main screen of the wrapper up… for prettiness sake!
That’s it for today!
